FAQ’s about ABC
Does the facility have an up-to-date license?
Our Center is evaluated by Dept of Learning licensors every three years. Our license is current and allows for 141 children in attendance. The center is periodically inspected by DEL.
Is the facility clean?
Yes, the center disinfects daily the floors and bathrooms with approved sanitizers. Our rugs are cleaned professionally on a monthly basis. Other toys and equipment are cleaned and disinfected periodically.
What are the hours the center is open?
5:30am to 6:00pm Monday thru Friday
Is there a limit on the number of hours a child can attend during the hours of operation?
Yes, attendance is limited to 10 hours per day with some exceptions which can be adjusted on an individual basis.
Is there enough furniture and play equipment for all the children?
Each classroom has developmentally appropriate furniture and play equipment which is constantly being up dated...
Is the equipment in good repair and age appropriate?
Every attempt is made to remove excessively worn and/or broken equipment. The center is constantly upgrading and replacing essential items in the classrooms.
Are dangerous materials and solutions safely out of reach?
Yes, all hazardous materials are stored in locked cabinets out of the reach of the children
Does the Director observe the rooms on a regular basis?
Yes, both the director and the assistant director observe classrooms daily. They provide assistance with curriculum and disciplinary concerns.
Is there an adequate fire safety system in place including alarms, sprinklers, and alternate exits?
Yes, there are smoke detectors and fire alarms in each room. This equipment is checked by fire department annually. Fire drills occur periodically. Appropriate lock down procedures are in effect if necessary.
Is there adequate heating, cooling, lighting and ventilation in place?
This facility was built in 1988 specifically for the purpose of child care. All of these utilities were properly installed at that time and with proper maintenance do provide adequate heating, cooling, lighting and ventilation.
Are the meals and snacks provided? If so are they nutritious, age appropriate, and served on time?
ABC Children’s Center participates in the Child and Adult Care Food program administered by USDA. We provide balanced and nutritious meals at breakfast, lunch and 2 snacks. These meals are provided at no cost to the families.
Are the physical, emotional and intellectual needs of the children met by the staff?
It is our goal to meet every individual child’s need. Staff members are constantly receiving training in evaluating and monitoring the needs of the children they serve. Our belief is that the environment fit the need of the child
Are the children able to spend time with their friends and alone throughout the day?
Considerable portions of each day are dedicated to “supervised play” where children can interact with friends or retire to the reading area to be alone.
Is there time spent outdoors when weather permits?
Yes, the children are scheduled for time outside twice each day weather permitting .We believe that out door play is an extension of the indoor classroom.
A new “big Toy” was recently purchased for the older children.
Is the staff exposed to continuing education so they can grow professionally?
Yes all staff is required to have 20 hours of STARS training within the first six months of employment. Ten hours of STARS training is required on an annual basis. Staff is encouraged and financially supported to participate in other appropriate class work or training.
Are there regular communications between parents, children, staff and directors?
Yes.
Every attempt is made to improve communication in all areas. The director is available for consultation. Staff is encouraged to relate to the parents each day as they pick up and deliver their children. A center wide news letter is delivered from the director office periodically.
