ABC has a dedicated staff with extensive experience and training. The staff works hard each day to live up to our responsibilities. Continuous training is provided for all staff and daily supervision occurs.  We would especially encourage you to visit the center and further discuss with the staff and teachers how your child will benefit from participation in the programs at ABC Children’s Center.

Director Mugsy Schumacher:

I am proud to be the Director of ABC Children’s Center. It is a wonderful facility created distinctly for childcare and Early Childhood Education. It is an honor to work with such friendly, professional and educated teachers. The positive minded staff at ABC certainly makes my job easy and I look forward to coming to work everyday.  I have been in the Early Childhood field for over 25 years.  The first several years were spent as the owner of my own home childcare and the last two as the director here at ABC.  [My passion as well as my degree is in Early Childhood Education.]  I believe that every child is an important individual that should be celebrated for their unique qualities and gifts.  My job here at ABC is to make sure the systems are in place to help your child thrive and grow.  This is accomplished by continuous staff training, providing adequate materials that support child development and ensuring good nutrition in a safe and welcoming environment.  It is my intention that the children at ABC receive the best quality care especially in an approach that honors them as individuals.

Assistant Director Debbie Wallace:

As the Assistant Director of ABC for over ten years, Debbie serves many roles.  Her hearty laugh and broad smile serve as a warm welcome for all those entering ABC.  Debbie supports staff with ideas and supplies as well as encouragement.  She is a constant advocate for children.

When it comes to providing a quality staff at ABC we start with the basics and then the essentials. Basic: All staff members have background checks, first aid, CPR, blood Bourne pathogen training, a negative TB test and a food handler card. Essentials: a positive disposition, a desire to be with and educate children, basic 20 hours STARS training and continuous education.  We pay for and require our teachers to use our Bates Technical College (Early Childhood Program) affiliation.  The classes required are accumulated toward an AA in Early Childhood Education.  Many of our teachers have already accomplished; their CDA (Childhood Development credential-this is a year of training, observations and tests they must pass), AA in Early Childhood Development, BA in education and other fields.  We are pleased that all of teachers are receptive to ongoing education to support excellent quality childcare.
